We Interrupt Your Regularly Scheduled Broadcast

I'll be heading to Brooklyn, for the purposes of the American Crossword Puzzle Tournament and kickin' it, on Friday, and won't be back in time for next week's post. Instead, there will be a puzzle on Friday morning (and a topical one, too). Things will return to normal the following week, and I promise a good ACPT write-up. What I'm most looking forward to is Matt Ginsberg's presentation of his crossword-solving AI, Dr. Fill. Read about it here and here, and, if you're brave, read Ginsberg's JAIR research paper here.

Today's puzzle is a 13x13 mini-themed offering. Had intended to do a mini-themeless style grid with the themers as the seed entries, but their placements in the grid would not admit a suitably low word count. Even the grid as it stands now was problematic in a few spots (hence the cheater/helper squares), but that was also because I stubbornly pulled out all the stops to keep the long down answers in there - those two have been on my shortlist for a while. Turned out fair, I feel.

More words, crossed and otherwise, on Friday.
